2008 San Diego Bayfair Powerboat Races on Mission Bay
Bayfair San Diego was held in San Diego on Mission Bay. Here the unlimited class powerboats reach speeds at over 200 mph.
Powerboats Thunder at Over 200 MPH at the 2008 Bayfair San Diego Event on Mission Bay Sept. 19-21 2008!
A great time was had by kids and adults who went out to Ski Beach, Fiesta Island and Crown Point to watch the 2008 Bayfair San Diego Powerboat Races.
"This is an event we wait all year for", said Kim Elver who was visiting San Diego from Phoenix. "We are able to spend time in San Diego when the weather is great and watch an event that we all love".
The 2008 Bayfair San Diego event drew tens of thousands of visitors and onlookers who saw the best drivers and boats in "The World Series of Powerboat Racing".
The event features boats from many diferent classes of powerboats that come from all over the country and even Canada to race it out on Mission Bay.
"The conditions on Mission Bay are excellent for these large boats", said Ted Anderson a former boat mechanic. "When you have boats reaching speeds of over 200 miles per hour having low wind speed and waves is a must for safety".
During the trials on Sunday morning a boat flipped over tossing both drivers into Mission Bay for rescue. The drivers were both recovered by emergency crews and treated and released once reaching shore, but it does say alot for the danger drivers face every time they get into the boats.
