MEN’S FINALS QUOTES:
Todd Rogers:
“I’m more tired. Phil and I, we’re hurting, and I could tell that he had a low energy level. I was trying to keep mine as high as I could because it’s the Manhattan Beach Open. For as tired as we’ve been, we’ve been pushing a lot.”
On winning two straight: “It’s pretty huge. Matt Gage came up and congratulated Phil and I and said, ‘Hey, back to back is pretty impressive.’ Right now it hasn’t sunk in. But hey, two plaques on the pier, not a lot of people have done that.”
“That’s a good team. We had our A game at times. Phil’s serve was a little off. I was a little inconsistent starting out.”
Dax Holdren:
“It’s a tough loss. (Phil’s) serve is pretty tough. That’s why they’re winning tournaments right now.”
“If you can’t get fired up to play in that (Manhattan), you gotta go find another job.”
“Neither of them are really a bundle of entertainment and excitement. That’s why they’re good. They don’t have really high peaks and really low valleys. They kind of stay even keel and I think that works to their advantage.”
Pete Carroll quotes:
How are your volleyball skills?
“I didn’t play today. I didn’t make it through the losers’ bracket. No, I like playing volleyball. My family all plays.”
“This is the Wimbledon of beach volleyball. Manhattan Beach is everything. This is where it all got started, right here. This is a very famous place and a famous event. They do know a little bit about the history of it.”
Any of these guys good volleyball players?
“There are a few guys, but for the most part, they’d be climbing all over the net.”
What do you hope they’ll get out of coming down here?
“It’s about dealing with distractions. It’s a chance for us to come down and get in a setting like this and handle ourselves well… We’re making sure that they realize that they’ve got to act well and represent and take care of this time that we’re here. They’re going to have to do it on their own all the time anyway, so this is a little bit of practice.”
“They do stand out because they’re so big, but when they get in this crowd, you’ll see, they mix right in.”
