World Famous is the best overall beach restaurant in San Diego. The food quality is awesome including tons of fresh fish, fresh baked brie, fish tacos, awesome basalmic vinegarete dressing, and a host of other fantastic dishes and appetizers.
Try the California Cappelleni for a great vegetarian dish or one of their great fresh fish and daily seafood specials which comes with a dinner salad and some of the best warm bread in the "world". Try not to eat too much before dinner and you will see why this place is always busy.
They have happy hours for "lobster and fish tacos" on Tuesday and Wednesday which draw cultic crowds who wait in line for sometimes up to an hour to eat these delicious dollar specials. Lunch is okay w/o reservations but evening or weekend breakfast groups should call ahead and make reservations to be safe.
